Welcome to this first issue of Connections for 2011.
We are happy to report that the Trust looks forward to having more grant resources to distribute this year, a projected $13 million to distribute between our primary communities of interest, Indianapolis and Phoenix. This is 13 percent more than we were able to distribute in 2010. We are optimistic that this upward trend will continue as the overall economy gains momentum. However, we are fully aware that recovery at the state and local level lags, and many people and organizations remain very vulnerable. We pledge to be as responsive as possible where we believe we can provide support.
New Nina Scholars Deadline
We are asking all Connections readers who know of potential applicants to help us spread the word about the March 1 application deadline for Cohort 11. Eligible applicants include both men and women in three categories:
- Adults 25 years or older with dependents
- Physically disabled adults or traditional college-age young adults
- College-age young adults who have been raised in the child welfare system
The Nina Scholars scholarships are for up to four years of study at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis and Maricopa County Community Colleges in the Phoenix area and for up to six years at IUPUI in Indianapolis and Arizona State University in the Phoenix area. Please visit our Nina Scholars page to access more information about the program and contact information for each school.
This scholarship opportunity continues to have life-changing economic and social impact on individuals and their families who previously thought that a college education was not financially or realistically obtainable.
We thank you for helping spread the word and extend best wishes for a rewarding 2011.
