Building a Legacy of Community Grantmaking since 1998

protecting Animals & Nature

Basic Needs
Zoos and Botanical Gardens
Women, Children, Youth, and Families

Animal Welfare

The Trust supports organizations and programs that strengthen community bonds and provide humane services for domestic animals, including shelters, and veterinarian and adoption services. It also provides support for organizations providing rescue, veterinarian care, spay/neuter services, and reintroduction of native wildlife.

Zoos and Botanical Gardens

The Trust supports organizations and programs that provide education and recreation opportunities for the community and that protect the diversity of animals and their habitats.

Environment

The Trust will consider environmental funding requests from nonprofit organizations that promote conservation of natural habitats and ecosystems, and programs that advance restoration, preservation, protection, and resiliency of land, water, wildlife and plants. The Trust will also support programs that promote personal stewardship, and programs that offer knowledge and tools for addressing current and future issues.

The Trust will not provide funding for the purchase of raw land designated as open space or for recreational purposes.

The Trust will consider proposals from local and national nonprofit organizations operating in Arizona and Indiana. Priority will be given those organizations with local staff and board representation in the respective state.

For environmental proposals, the Trust will consider more favorably those that contain the following elements:

  • Collaboration
Grant proposals that build strong partnerships and alliances with community organizations, environmental groups, government agencies and/or corporations.

  • Adaptation
Organizations that consider and apply adaptation principles within proposed projects.

  • Measurable Outcomes
Organizations should carefully develop projects with measurable outcomes by formulating goals, objectives, outcomes and outcome indicators. A method to accomplish this is the logic model, which creates a common language for project accountability and evaluation.

  • Sustainability
Proposals that include other means of financial support will be favored over those that rely totally on Trust funding. Requests should demonstrate clearly how the project will be sustained after the Trust's grant ends. However, this criteria does not apply to short-term projects that have a distinct beginning and ending without a need for long-term funding.
  • Connect People to the Environment
Projects should encourage diversity and inclusiveness, providing opportunities for individuals of various ethnic, demographic and/or cultural backgrounds.

For environmental education and awareness proposals:

  • Comprehensive Curriculum
The project's education curriculum (or programs of instruction) should be based on qualified scientific research, include multi-disciplinary educational approaches, provide hands-on opportunities for learning, contain local environmental themes, and produce measurable results through meaningful exposure to the program's core components.
